The Tannery has a variety of sunless tanning lotions available for purchase. These lotions can be used in sunless tanning beds or outdoors. Using a sunless tanning lotion will bronze your skin when used outdoors but most do not contain sunscreen to protect from UV rays.
WARNING: Tanning bed acrylics are porous and expand when the bulbs heat up. Any lotion not meant for indoor tanning will damage the acrylic (especially those with mineral oil) and will not help develop your tan (those with alcohol dry out your skin). LOTIONS MUST BE PURCHASED AT THE TANNERY to ensure the integrity and safety of our tanning beds. Additionally, over 70% of tanning lotions sold online are refilled, diluted, not stored correctly, or are over five years old and expired. CHOOSING A LOTION: There are three different types of indoor tanning lotions that come with special ingredient variants. The Tannery sells single use packets to allow our customers to try products and see what they prefer. We also have bottles available for sale. We test all lotions before offering them for sale and only stock high quality products at an affordable price!
Accelerators & Maximizers - great for beginning indoor tanners. Formulated to help you quickly achieve a base tan and usually contain a large amount of moisturizers that allow the skin to tan more quickly and retain your color for a longer time.
Bronzers - gives you an instant tan and you continue to darken for hours after your session. With bronzers, wait a few hours after tanning before taking a shower, but wash hands immediately to avoid discoloration (skin on your hands react differently to bronzers than the rest of your body and can sometimes get splotchy if not washed as soon as you are done tanning). Bronzers can be cosmetic (immediate and temporary results with cosmetic color); DHA (produces color results within four hours and typically last up to seven days); or natural (contain ingredients such as caramel, henna, and black walnut). Many lotions will contain a combination of bronzers.
Tingle & Hot Action - not recommended for first time tanners. Contain an active ingredient like benzyl or methyl nicotinate which promotes micro-circulation (increases blood flow and brings oxygen to the cells in your skin). When using these products you will experience a mild tingling, reddening, and warming sensation on the skin’s surface. Can cause reactions for people with delicate or highly sensitive skin.
